Not All Standards Are Created Equal.
Different standards may specify different projectiles, velocities, shot patterns, impact conditions, environmental conditioning and acceptance criteria.
A designation used under one standard should not automatically be considered equivalent to a similarly named designation under another. Iten starts every program by understanding the application, threat and required test standard before designing the armor system.
Bullet-Resisting Equipment
UL 752
UL 752 evaluates the ballistic resistance of materials, devices, assemblies and fixtures used to form bullet-resistant barriers. The 12th Edition organizes defined threats with designations tied to handgun, rifle and shotgun ammunition and test conditions.
The current designation system replaces the former Level 1–10 structure used in the 11th Edition.

NIJ 0108.01
Ballistic Resistant Protective Materials
NIJ Standard 0108.01 establishes performance requirements and test methods for ballistic-resistant protective materials intended to provide protection against gunfire. NIJ continues to list the 1985 standard as active.

Ballistic Resistance of Body Armor
NIJ 0101.06 and NIJ 0101.07 establish minimum performance requirements and test methods for ballistic-resistant body armor intended to protect the torso against handgun and rifle ammunition.
NIJ 0123.00
Ballistic Protection Levels and Associated Test Threats
NIJ 0123.00 defines current handgun-to-rifle ballistic threat categories, including specified ammunition and reference velocities. It is intended for use with equipment-specific performance and testing standards; it does not itself contain performance requirements or test methods.
RF2 is an intermediate rifle category; RF3 addresses an armor-piercing rifle test threat.

STANAG 4569 / AEP-55
STANAG 4569 provides standardized protection requirements for occupants of armored military vehicles and is used across NATO and allied defense programs. The active public listing references AEP-55 Volume 1 among the supporting publications.
AEP-55 provides supporting procedures and methodologies used to evaluate protection systems against applicable requirements.

Ballistic Security Glazing
EN 1063:2000
EN 1063 establishes requirements and test methods for classifying the resistance of security glazing against bullet attack. It covers security glazing for interior and exterior use, including glass and glass/polymer composite systems.

ATPD 2352
ATPD 2352 is a U.S. Army purchase description associated with transparent armor. For a specific program, the applicable revision and contract documents define the ballistic threat, test conditions and acceptance requirements.
Protection claims are evaluated against the actual contract requirement and test report, not inferred from a standard number alone.
